Legendary Freestyle Icon Steve Shipp will most probably be coming on out to the Jam! He was Ed Nadalin's protoge in the 70's and was featured in the Magic Rolling Board -- He Gorrila-gripped off a launch ramp to the top of a table and 360'd off! He is a great spinner and has smooth fast foootwork. Also got a call from Masami Countryman who was a legendary freestyler with Fibreflex! The scene keeps growing! I also heard Russ Howell is threatening to move back to So Cal.......
Shaping up to be a good Summer of skating!!!!!!!!!!

Masami -- Looking forward to meeting you -- Richy speaks highly of you and was stoked to hear from you.
For sure one of the nice things about these Jams is the friendly no pressure setting -- so everyone can have fun -- rust or not. Looks like we'll have great weather and a great turnout.
See you all soon!

Just heard from Patti McGee who is planning to make it by the Jam on Sunday. Patti now lives in Arizona but is planning to be in So Cal over the weekend so it just might just work out.
You may remember Patti -- National Girl's Champion who was featured on the cover of Life Magazine doing a handstand in 1965. That pic is recreated in Concrete Wave - History of Skateboarding by Michael Brooke.
Hope to see you Patti!

Hey Jason and Guests -- cool to hear from you! Welcome to SK8KINGS.COM. I figured if I could find a BMX forum and post an invite it would be a good start to connect for Jams and maybe other things in the future.
The flatland freestyle skating has been combined in same events before -- like the LA Barrio Games a couple of years ago and before that at a contest we now call "The Dungeon" which was held at the Embarcadaro in San Fran in a dark warehouse with pretty worn out surface. Anyway, it was a good time and cool contrast between the BMX and the skaters. It's all good.
Primo Desiderio from San Diego -- who is also a SK8KING and legendary freestyler -- will be bringing his remote DJ boomer to Jam to. Look forward to meeting you guys. I'll be the one with the big hair and the video cam. See ya!

It was a hot one for sure in more ways than one. Temps were up on Sunday but the ocean breeze kept things from getting too out of hand. Props to all who showed up including all the newcomers. Here's a shot of some of the group . . . Extra special guests included Wally Inouye (Thanks Ed E!) --
(Tom "Wally" Inouye and Richy Carrasco)
Patti McGee (brought her sweetheart Mom too!) -- got Patti to sign her vintage Life Mag cover shot in Concrete Wave -- too cool!
(Patti McGee, Ed Economy, Maria Carrasco) Chris Yandall and his daughter came all the way from San Diego to hang at the Jam along with a whole group of BMX flatlanders who added to the always memorable times we have at these Jams.
(Patti McGee, Ed Economy, Tom Inouye, Richy Carrasco) Brother Rene made it for the "group shot" this time and burned through some film -- looking forward to seeing his "ghetto" art! Richard Chang and Mindy Schauer from the OC Register came out to cover the Jam for the newspaper. If you get the Register -- be sure to pull out and save the Local section -- story and pic on page 4. Here's a look:
Click here to view the online version of the Register article: http://www2.ocregister.com/ocrweb/ocr/article.do?id=93218§ion=LOCAL&subsection=LOCAL&year=2004&month=5&day=3 Sorry -- just found out you have to sign-up to be able to view this on-line. It is free to sign up though. I will try to find a work around or something. If not -- the article above might have to do.
How about a link to the Register's color version of the article pic -- for viewing only -- no stealing -- copyright . . .

Thinking about Venice Beach for the next one sometime in June!! Action pics to follow.
