Be rooting for the AXE Army as we go to Paris France and Hangover Germany for three days of racing in Paris and two days of racing in Hangover. The Jackhammer is pumped up and ready to go! Maria and I are making final preparations to give it another good go. Hopefully we'll be able to keep everyone posted on the results and adventures here. Stay tuned! Oi!

Well -- in a few short hours we'll be in the air and heading to Paris -- first stop on the tour. We are psyched and looking forward. Will have some time to kill on the journey over and lots of projects to work on . Thank God for the laptop!

Will be posting as much as possible so will check in once we are safely at our destination.

Safe travels to Brad Jackman leaving from Washington and Jason Mitchell leaving from Colorado. We'll be meeting up soon and the fun will begin!

Cheers!

This post was made by Maria who was logged in under Richy's ID by accident -- ooops! :) Pics and more story detail was added in later too. Enjoy!!

TUESDAY (05/22) -- IT'S D-DAY -- WE LEAVE FOR EUROPE!
The flight to Paris went pretty smoothly. Richy and I left from the OC airport nice and easy on a late morning flight.

Met up with Brad the Jackhammer in Houston Texas and then boarded again for the long leg of the flight over the pond.

Brad was fired up and kept telling us how he was bringing his "A" game to Europe to kick some butt! We were really stoked to see a healthy Jackhammer ready to go for the 2007 Euro Tour.

Image
Brad looking energized and chowing on the always excellent airline cuisine!! Ha Ha

We flew through the night and watched the sunrise from the window of the plane! Nice huh!

IT'S WEDNESDAY AND SK8KINGS ARE IN PARIS!
Image
Image
Arrival at CDG Paris airport -- traveling light as usual!!

Now off to find Racer X and our pre-booked shuttle to the hotel -- our home base for our time in Paris. Have been hanging with Jason "Racer X" Mitchell and having fun enjoying a couple of days of free time before racing starts on Saturday.

Our hotel is in the Passy district -- on the Trocadero side of the Seine river. Located on this narrow little street surrounded by fresh produce & flower markets, little bistros and gourmet take-away shops!

Step outside and this is what you see.

Image
Right next door to our hotel. Look closely to see Richy at the counter scoring some killer munchies for us all!

Richy and Jason seen here teaching the hotel clerk how to ride slalom!

Image
Jason celebrated his birthday with us complete with a musical card from Terry that played "Ring of Fire" so we could all sing along! Happy 4-0!! Nice touch T!

IT'S FRIDAY -- RACE DAY EVE
Weather has been warm and sunny since our arrival but Friday night the storm rolled in. Winds, lightning, thunder and rain took over the previous peaceful skies! It raged for a bit and then cleared enough for us to venture out for the evening. We weren't about to let a little thing like weather get in our way and decided to head to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Well o.k. -- we had to settle for level 2 since that was as far as they would go up in the weather -- but it was still a killer view! Check it out!

That was the first time we’ve ever been up in the tower after all the times we’ve been to Paris. We got to see a very different view of the Trocadero -- a place we would be spending the next few days at racing!

IT'S SATURDAY -- LET THE RACING BEGIN!
(Written in the morning before the race)
Today is the first day of racing – tight slalom – at the Troc. Getting the gear together and almost ready to head down to the race site. Brad is racing in the Open so his group will be starting first. It’s Open qualifying at 10:30 and then Pro Qual at 1:00 followed by Open Elims and then Pro Elims. We’ll be at it all day into the night I’m sure. Forecast is for rain throughout the day (and the weekend in fact) so we’ll see how things go. Richy and Brad are pumped and ready to rock – GO AXE ARMY!

Here are some pics from Day One of racing --

Cause for major celebration here at SK8KINGS and the highlight of the day for sure was seeing Brad Jackman charge to victory winning the Open Division racing!
Image
Brad holding his now-famous AXE II -- and weapon of choice for most of the Euro trip!

Brad seen here gearing up for the next match.
What's that in your mouth Brad?
What -- A chocolate croissant?
Image
Note to self -- "eat plenty of chocolate croissants on race day" . . . ;)

Brad was on fire running mostly clean all day starting with the fastest qualifiying time and then keeping that momentum going through to the finish when he raced out with Chris Barrett for the number 1 spot! Congrats Brad for making us proud! Richy didn't have such a good day in the Pro Div. but by the last match with Pirnack had his groove on -- just a little too late to take it and he didn't move on. Hey -- that's racing though and with two more days of comp here in Paris -- will have a chance to improve his standings.

The weather was downright hot at times though the sky had an ominous dark presence just out of range toward the end of the day. Preview of things to come I'm afraid.

Day one of racing ended with an international freestyle jam including Lillis all the way from Sweden. Richy (USA) and Manuel Schaub (Switzerland) were representing for SK8KINGS. Claude Regnier was flying the Canadian colors and amazingly everyone had plenty left in the tank to show off some impressive manuevers. As usual I was shooting video primarily but did click off a few stills. Here are a couple:

Image
Claude busting the multi-board rolling handstand!

SK8KINGS rider from Switzerland Manuel Schaub riding Richy's 360 King set up

Back to the hotel to freshen and then off to a celebration dinner with the Brits. The evening included a Happy Birthday song to Jason Mitchell (the big 40) and trading notes with some locals from one table over.

Image
Jason, Brad and Paul entertaining the locals

A highlight was Paul Price's dessert which tasted too horrible for anyone to enjoy eating -- but made a perfect penalty prize for the loser of a number game we decided to play. Sam Gordon was the lucky "winner" who had to eat a giant bite of the delicacy that Richy dubbed "sweaty chicken". Good fun fur sure!
Image
Sweaty Chicken in all it's glory. Looks harmless enough -- right?

Image
Just ask Sam Gordon -- in case the picture doesn't tell the story.

Image
Thanks to Katti Campbell and the largest calculator in history for tallying up the damage!

Tomorrow brings Hybrid slalom and the threat of rain, rain and more rain. The organizers have plans to get started earlier to have the best chance of completing the racing before the rain overtakes. We're hoping for the best. Onward and upward -- GO AXE ARMY!

It's Monday morn and we're gearing up for the final day of racing in Paris. But first, here's a brief recap of Day Two Sunday's Special/Hybrid --

Sunday was eventful but we got rained out early on unfortunately.

Image

Image
Image

Things started out on a good note with the Open Division running their qualifying runs first. Brad The Jackhammer was on fire once again and he was in third place after round one. Running against David R. from France -- the rain was starting to fall but Brad and David were the last two to go for the second round. These two decided not to let a little rain get in the way of finishing the quals and Brad layed down the blazing fastest time putting him in the No 1 spot once again.

Image
Image

The rain continued throughout the day and kept any more racing from going forward. At 5 pm the organizers called it deciding to save the Pro rounds for first thing on Monday to be followed by the GS. Since the qualifying was complete in the Open -- the win went to Brad who is on his way to maybe sweep the entire weekend! Wouldn't that be sweet!!

Image

Richy is looking forward to racing today and we're hoping the rain will cooperate! Stay tuned for more AXE Army updates!
